Claims Handling
In the event of a claim, VALE is responsible for investigating and handling the claim and is the primary point of contact for the insured and their advisors. Claims counsel is generally only engaged when a claim requires highly specific expertise to expedite the process. The ultimate claims handling decisions are made by VALE and claim adjustment in conjunction with our carrier partners.
VALE has a successful history of paying claims in a timely manner. Only on extremely rare occasion have VALE claims reached mediation, arbitration, or litigation. VALE settles seven- and eight- figure dollar claims on a regular basis before any formal resolution mechanism is utilized.
Our claims handling process goes hand-in-hand with our underwriting process, and we view them as a unified product with a focus on service and sophistication.

Rikki Usinger
Prior to joining VALE, Rikki served as a Complex Claim Director at AIG, handling claims arising under Representation and Warranties insurance policies, Tax Indemnity policies and other transactional insurance policies.
At AIG, Rikki held several other positions where she handled claims arising under various other professional liability policies, including, but not limited to, Directors & Officers Insurance, Broker/Dealer Insurance and Bankers Professional Liability Insurance.
Rikki received her JD from New York Law School. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan.
